DANCER, CHOREOGRAPHER, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Julien Meyzindi’s career as a dancer at the Paris Opera has brought him around the world, to work with some of the best dancers and choreographers in classical and modern ballet. He began at the Montpellier Conservatoire when he was six years old, and then entered the Paris Opera Ballet School in 1992, where he undertook 5 years of intensive training. 

Julien joined the Paris Opera Ballet in 1997 he was hired into the corps de ballet and promoted to “Coryphée” two years later, where he was given his first role in Maurice Béjart's ballet Le Concours. In 2000, he won the silver medal at the In 2000, he won the silver medal at the International Dance Competition in Paris. In 2004, he was promoted to “Sujet” and performed numerous soloist roles in the ballets of the classical repertoire by Rudolf Nureyev, Serge Lifar, Roland Petit, as well as John Neumeier, George Balanchine, and Jerome Robbins. He danced Boléro by Maurice Béjart alongside Sylvie Guillem and began exploring the contemporary repertoire: Pina Bausch, Merce Cunningham. William Forsythe, and Jiří Kylián entrusted him with soloist roles. In 2013, he created Smoke Alarm and also a piece for the 130th anniversary of Maison Lejaby at the Lido in Paris.

In 2015, he choreographed his first music video, Pueblo, for Sauvage, and Wayne McGregor chose him for the creation : Tree of Codes, where he performed alongside Marie-Agnès Gillot at the Manchester International Festival and at the Park Armory in New York. In 2016, he took part in the creation of Season’s Canon by Crystal Pite, and later performed the leading role of Iolanta/Casse-Noisette in the creation by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Édouard Lock, and Arthur Pita.

Since 2018, he has collaborated with different artists such as Lulu Gainsbourg on a music video, and visual artist François Mangeol for the Nuit Blanche event in Paris.

In 2020, Julien finishes his career at the Opera. He received the state diploma for classical dance instruction, and has been working as an artistic adviser for dance companies and performing artists. In 2021, he was the choreographer for a short film "Deviens" directed by Adrien Lohmmedieu and works for Gaumont and Prime Video as a dance expert.

Today Julien is focusing on the development of his own creative project : "What Next ?" a multi-disciplinary project bringing togethers Julien's choreography, a short film directed by Cecile Rogue and produced by Naïa Productions. This film will have its World Premiere as an official selection of the 2023 New York Tribeca Film Festival. In this context, he founded his company, Kitchen Ballet."
